Time for a Check-Up: Simple Shifts to Refocus and Reconnect
Did you know that by the end of June, you will have survived all 181 days of 2025 so far? And… that means there are a grand total of 184 days to go. 📅
What amazing things can you achieve in that time? It doesn’t have to be grandiose to others. Depending on where you are, it might simply mean getting through it — and that’s okay. 💪
But the fact you have this potential time (I say potential as none of us knows what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone in 180+ days) means you can be intentional about it. 🎯 Remind yourself what you hoped to achieve way back in January.
Basically, what I’m trying to say is — it’s time for a Check-Up. Open wide, please! 😮😷
Last June, I said: “The actions and attitudes you implement today will help shape the outcomes you have tomorrow.” That still completely applies. ✅
Here are three attitudes that can help set you up for success in the second half of the year. Take a look:
1. Be Courageous 🦁
Courage shows up in many ways. You might be facing situations that aren’t going how you hoped, and some tough decisions lie ahead.
Sometimes, we just need to reach out and ask for help. 🙋♂️🙋♀️ That alone can feel huge — like admitting we’ve failed. And maybe sometimes we have failed. But it doesn’t have to end there. Courage can mean choosing to change your outlook.
Personal example: I had to be honest about my own limits to make sure I had at least one day a week off from caring for my mum (who has Alzheimer’s). It meant sending a tough email, but the consequences of staying silent would have been harder in the long run.
Now I’ve had Sundays to myself for two months, and it’s given me a totally new lease of life 🌱. I look forward to Sundays now, rather than dreading them. I thank God for the courage which made that possible.
What do you need to be courageous about? Pop it in the comments 💬 (if you’re comfortable sharing).
2. Be Lean 🧹
In preparation for possibly selling our family home, I’ve been tidying and decluttering. It’s so refreshing! I love a good clear-out. Being lean is good for the mind 🧠 as well as the body.
My kitchen now looks inviting instead of cluttered. It’s more inspiring to cook in 🍳 — and that’s just one room.
You might not be decluttering a whole house, but what about your workspace? Is it inspiring, or does it feel bloated — like you might feel after a big Sunday roast 🍽️?
It's not always physical items that we need to be lean with. What are the mental blocks, or even calendar items that are just leaving you too mentally bloated? Do you need to watch or read the news everyday? What about social media? Do you really need to do the doomscrolling dance through Instagram every morning? 📱
Think about, what can you reduce, or event cut out completely to make you more lean?Share your tips in the comments.💡
3. Be Connected 🤝
It’s vital to be connected with others — for your wellbeing and your dose of serotonin 🧬. Someone once said, “To be is to be in relationships.” And no, they weren’t talking about AI! 🤖
AI, and even animals 🐾 can have their place, but they’re no substitute for human connection. As you plan the rest of your year, think about how you’re engaging with others.
Are there communities you could join — or ones you’re already in, but haven’t really connected with? Conekto Community? 😉
What about networking groups, church groups ⛪, co-working groups 👥, walking groups 🚶♂️, or creative collectives 🎨? There are groups out there for just about everything, filled with like-minded people (and some who think differently — which can be good too). Check out the Meetup app — you’ll be amazed! 📱
Final thoughts 🧭
Those are just three ways to check in with yourself and get set for a solid second half of 2025. Will it be perfect? No. Will it be your best year yet? Maybe, maybe not.
But checking in, being intentional, and choosing how you respond — that will make a difference. It’s not the events in life that shape us, but our reaction to them 🔁.
If you can be courageous, get lean, and stay connected, you’re giving yourself a strong foundation for whatever comes next. 🧱
